SL (Stockholm Public Transport) Travel Centre at Roslags-Näsby is a joint venture involving SL, Veidekke and Sweco, with Hammerglass AB being the subcontractor to Veidecke. Hammerglass designers have taken an active role in Sweco’s design work and have been able to contribute with valuable experience from similar projects.
Glazed on the ground and lifted into place
Since the entire building project is to be carried through while traffic continues to roll at full steam along the tracks, it is necessary for most of the structures to be capable of being fully assembled close to the track area and then lifted into position with a number of large cranes. Even if the structures are stable, this type of lift would be almost impossible with ordinary glass, as movements in the overall structure would result in glass breakage. Now, Hammerglass installers can install all panes in situ while the steel skeleton is on the ground, and this renders installation even easier. All panes are to be measured and produced individually, so even if the final construction fails to correspond 100% to the drawing, installation will still run smoothly.
